Industrial Automation Computer Solution

Industrial Computing for PLC, CNC, Machine Control and Factory Automation

Industrial automation systems connect computers with PLCs, CNC machines, controllers, sensors and other field devices.

The industrial computer must therefore provide more than processing performance. It needs the right industrial I/O, stable power, suitable thermal management, network connectivity and storage architecture for continuous operation.

YANLING industrial automation computer solutions combine Intel processors with industrial I/O, fanless thermal architecture, flexible DC power input, multi-LAN connectivity and local storage.

The objective is to provide one integrated computing platform for machine control, data acquisition, equipment communication and local processing.

The Industrial Automation Computing Problem & Challenge

The Industrial Automation Problem

A typical automation computer must solve several problems simultaneously:

  • Multiple serial devices

  • Legacy RS232/RS485 equipment

  • Sensor connectivity

  • Limited cabinet space

  • Heat accumulation

  • Continuous operation

  • Industrial DC power

  • Local data storage

  • Network communication

YANLING addresses these requirements through configurable industrial computer architectures.

How YANLING Solves Industrial Automation Requirements

Multiple Device Connectivity

Selected YANLING platforms provide up to 6 COM interfaces.

The current 12th Gen fanless Mini PC provides:

  • COM1–2 isolated RS485
  • COM3–4 RS232/485
  • COM5–6 RS232

This enables one compact computer to communicate with multiple serial devices.

Sensor and Control Connectivity

Applicable platforms provide GPIO and CAN interfaces for sensor integration and control systems.

Continuous Industrial Computing

Fanless thermal architecture eliminates the mechanical cooling fan on applicable systems.

Processing

YANLING platforms range from low-power Intel N-series processors to Core i3/i5/i7 and newer Intel generations.

Storage

M.2 NVMe and 2.5-inch SATA options are available on applicable systems.

Recommended Industrial Automation Computer Platform | Yanling

A current 12th Gen YANLING fanless Mini PC is available with Intel Core i5-1235U or i7-1255U processors, 10 cores / 12 threads and turbo frequency up to 4.7GHz.

The platform provides six COM ports:

  • COM1–2: isolated RS485
  • COM3–4: RS232/RS485

  • COM5–6: RS232

It also provides triple Intel LAN consisting of two i210-AT Gigabit Ethernet interfaces and one i226-LM 2.5GbE interface.

For local processing and storage, the platform supports DDR5 up to 32GB, two M.2 2280 storage interfaces and one 2.5-inch SATA interface, with RAID 0/1 support.

The system uses an all-aluminum fanless thermal design and supports DC 9V–36V input, reverse-polarity protection and an operating temperature of -20°C to +60°C on the published configuration.

Why Multi-COM Matters in Automation

Many automation installations still depend on serial communication.

A six-COM configuration can allow one industrial computer to communicate with several PLCs, meters, controllers or legacy devices without adding multiple external communication converters.

The exact RS232/RS485 configuration should be selected according to the connected equipment.

Fanless Computing for Control Cabinets

Fanless Computing for Control Cabinets

Fanless operation removes mechanical cooling fans from the thermal design on applicable systems.

YANLING uses an aluminum passive cooling structure to transfer heat away from the processor and chassis.

This can be useful for automation equipment installed in dusty or space-constrained environments where maintenance access and airflow are limited. For more fanless cooling details you can click Yanling Fanless Cooling Technology.

Select the Right Automation Computer

When selecting an industrial automation computer, evaluate:

  • CPU workload

  • Number of COM ports

  • RS232 / RS485 requirements

  • CAN or GPIO requirements

  • LAN requirements

  • Storage capacity

  • DC input voltage

  • Operating temperature

  • Mounting space

  • Required operating system

The correct solution should be selected from the complete system requirement rather than CPU performance alone.

Build Your Industrial Automation Computer

Tell YANLING how many PLCs, controllers and sensors need to be connected, which communication interfaces are required, the DC input range, processor workload and installation environment.

YANLING can then match the industrial PC hardware architecture to your automation system.
